Conservation Continues on Keel Mountain

Land Trust of North Alabama recently preserved 40 acres on Keel Mountain near the Madison/Jackson County line. This land was donated by the Terry Family, who also provided much of the property that is now Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve.

The property features a typical upland hardwood landscape. Its primary conservation value is to preserve significant natural habitat and to provide a valuable wildlife corridor in a growing area of our community. The property is a dynamic greenspace suitable for a variety of flora and fauna. Preserving this portion of the mountainside will also provide a continuous view along the southern face of Keel Mountain visible throughout the New Hope community and south eastern Madison County.

Current plans are for this property to remain a conservation preserve without public access. The land will be monitored to ensure the forest remains healthy and the land is not disturbed.
