The Big Tree Hunt

Go for a hike, learn about trees, win something fun, AND support our mission!

Share the largest tree you can find along our trails for a chance to win! The individual who submits the largest tree wins a $100 REI gift card AND an anonymous donor will make a $1000 gift to Land Trust of North Alabama in your name.

How It Works:

  • Go for a hike on a Land Trust nature preserve and locate the largest tree you can find within 20 feet on either side of the trail.
  • To Enter: Submit information about the tree you find using the form below and then email a photo of the tree, showing approximately 8 feet of the tree from the ground up, to questions@landtrustnal.org. You can submit additional photos of your tree to help clarify location or species identification.
  • Tree size will be compared based on diameter at breast height. If you want to take that measurement yourself, there will be a space available on the submission form to include that information but this is optional. Learn how to measure a tree’s diameter at breast height here.
  • To determine our winner, we’ll narrow it down to the top contenders using the photos submitted. Then our local foresters will help locate and measure the top contenders to determine the winning submission.
  • Contest ends July 1. The winner will be announced by July 10.
