Old Railroad Bed History Hike with Bruce Martin

Old Railroad Bed Trail follows the same path as the steam locomotive that traveled from the Huntsville Depot to the Monte Sano Hotel from 1888 until 1896.  Enjoy a bit of Huntsville’s past with hike leader and local historian Bruce Martin. (3 hours / Difficult / 4 miles)

Location: Monte Sano Nature Preserve (Bankhead Trailhead) – 2442 Bankhead Parkway, Huntsville, AL 35801

These FREE hikes offer natural beauty and exercise for the entire family but donations to help preserve green space are accepted! You don’t need fancy equipment! However, we do recommend:

  • long pants and comfortable shoes with good tread
  • bottled water
  • hiking sticks
  • trail snacks
  • and a camera to capture the experience

​Dogs welcome, but must be on leads. In case of rain, hikes may be cancelled. Please verify cancellation here or on our Facebook Page or website.

RESERVATION IS REQUIRED for guided hikes. Space is limited. Please register by 5 PM on Friday before weekend hikes. Our office is closed on Saturday & Sunday. Please call 256-534-5263 or email questions@landtrustnal.org if you have questions or need additional information.
