Environmental Internship for High School Students
This internship is designed for individuals in high school from grades 9-12 with an aptitude in environmental science and outdoor education. The focus of this program is to develop naturalist skills as well as practical hands-on training in environmental assessment, conservation, and stewardship. The educational program strongly aligns with the mission of the Land Trust of North Alabama to preserve North Alabama’s scenic, historic and ecological resources through conservation, advocacy, recreation and education. With a goal of training the next generation to be responsible stewards of the land, this internship has been formulated to provide practical activities such as soil analysis, water quality monitoring, and identification of local plants, mushrooms, and trees. These essential stewardship skills are not taught in a traditional classroom setting. The experience will emphasize outdoor education with minimal classes and presentations on the theoretical components.
